Crabs and Lobsters!
Habitat
1.          Crustaceans live in abandoned sea snail shells. They are a type of animal called omnivorous scavengers. This means they eat tiny animals and plants. They eat things such as brittle stars, sea stars, and sand dollars.
Importance to Environment
2.         Crabs are an important food for people. Low fat crabs are found in places like Asia and the Pacific. Crabs are also important to the environment. They eat small animals and keep their population down.

Unique Facts
3.
A special thing about crabs is that they have a hard shell. They also have a very large claw. The crab can grow the claw back if it is lost. Crabs also have things called mandibles. Mandibles are specialized mouth part-kind of like a jaw. Another special thing about these creatures is they have an antenna. They use the antenna to smell and taste. Unlike most animals crab's teeth are located in the stomach.
Skeletal Features
4.          Crab's support their shape by an exoskeleton. An exoskeleton is a skeleton outside the body.  The shell mainly supports the crab. The shell is made of a thing called chitin. Chitin makes the shell very hard.
Breathing
5.         In order for crabs to breathe in oxygen and breathe out carbon dioxide, they use specialized gills. These gills are called book gills. Book gills are feather like organs in a chamber beneath there shell. The crabs have to make sure to keep their gills wet. For crabs that live in water this is no problem, but the ones on land have fluids inside their body that keep the gills wet.
How They Reproduce
6.                 Animals have babies by eggs hatching. This is done by the male using internal fertilization. Internal fertilization is when the sperm goes directly into the female. Newly hatched eggs cannot survive in fresh water. That is why the eggs have to be hatched on damp land or the sea.
Nervous System
7.          Crabs and lobsters have a good nervous system and sense organs. They smell with feathery antennae and taste with sensory hairs on their legs. They have compound eye that can detect color and movement. There range of hearing is far above human. Witch means that they can hear noise that is too high for humans to
hear
Circulatory System
8.           Crabs have an open circulatory system. This means that the heart pumps blood through veins into smaller vessels. The blood flows into spaces. The muscles push the blood through to wash the body tissues.  The blood collects in a large space by the heart.
Excretory System
9.         Waste products from protein metabolism and tissue breakdown must be removed from an animal's body because they are usually toxic in nature and can hurt the crab or lobster. The process of eliminating these wastes is known as excretion and occurs through excretory organs, which, in the lobster, are located at the bases of the antennae.

Digestive System
10.           Crabs have a stomach that is called a gastric mill. This is how they get rid of the food they have eaten. They have a complete digestive system which means they have a mouth, esophagus, and stomach. This process is much the same as when humans go to the bathroom.

Examples
11.           There are many different examples of crabs. One is called the Red King Crab. It is extremely large and has a leg span of up to 6 ft. Even though not all crabs have pincher's that hurt, the blue crab is a crab that has a very painful pinch. Other examples include the pea crab, the crayfish, and the ghost.

Metamorphosis
12.          Crabs go through a process called metamorphosis. Metamorphosis is a sinking change in appearances, character, or circumstances. Remember metamorphosis by what butterflies are like. The larvae of the crabs are the ones who go through metamorphosis.

Definition of Arthropod
13.        Another word that people should know is arthropod. An arthropod is an animal that is an invertebrate. An invertebrate is an animal that has jointed limbs and a segmented body. These animals also have an exoskeleton. This skeleton is made of chitin. Chitin is what makes the shell hard.
